AUSZEIT
The duo AUSZEIT – Ulrike Schwarz and Britta Schönbrunn – weaves sound, body, and environment into a poetic, situational composition. They present their work at places of retreat: monasteries, churches, meditation rooms, and sanctuaries—spaces that naturally hold serenity, stillness, and contemplation.
With finely tuned sensory awareness, the two artists immerse themselves in the unique quality of each space. They respond to architectural lines, rising and falling structures, light, acoustics, and atmosphere. Sound and movement pick up sculptural details, and mark the space—sometimes gently and searchingly, sometimes directly and powerfully. Traces of sound and movement emerge: rhythmic, floating, or densely woven.
Through the constant interplay of listening, sensing, and responding, an immersive compositional fabric unfolds. Boundaries begin to blur, and new spaces of perception open up.
Breath—inhale, exhale, pause—is the starting point and anchor for both artists. Breath becomes the source of sound and movement: interacting with tone, body, spatial motion, and with the presence of the audience itself.
Visitors are invited to take time out („Auszeit“) from daily life, to step away from noise and haste, and to listen inward. In this shared experience, breath, sound, and movement merge into a delicate fabric—an atmospheric tapestry that can be felt individually as well as collectively.
